Jessica Villarubin Reacts After Facing Criticism for ‘Pagbirit’ During Mike Enriquez’s Wake

Here is Jessica Villarubin’s response to the criticism regarding her “pagbirit” during Mike Enriquez’s wake

JESSICA VILLARUBIN – The Kapuso singer, responded to criticism regarding her singing performance at the wake of the late broadcaster Mike Enriquez.

The singer clarified that she did not intend to outshine her fellow performers. Jessica sang “Lead Me, Lord” alongside Julie Anne San Jose, Rita Daniela, Hannah Precillas, Mariane Osabel, and Thea Astley as a tribute to the respected journalist.

She explained that they had diligently prepared for their tribute song, and her intention was not to overshadow her fellow singers. She shared, “Bago po kami kumanta sa funeral ni Sir Mike ay pinaghandaan po namin yun. Buong puso ko lang kinanta ang parte na binigay sa’kin.”

She also emphasized that their presence at the event was to pay tribute to Sir Mike. Notably, a video shared by GMA Network on their social media pages quickly went viral and sparked discussions. Some netizens expressed displeasure, perceiving Jessica’s performance as “showboating” and “oversinging” during the musical tribute at the late journalist’s wake.

According to some netizens as per The Freeman, her performance appeared inappropriate, considering the solemnity of the wake and the fact that it was not a contest where one needed to impress. “Ano ba yan Jessica! Ilugar ang pagbirit. Burol yan kalocca ka bwhwhwhwwh,” commented one netizen. However, others came to the defense of the Kapuso singer, asserting that there was nothing wrong with her singing style.

Meanwhile, Jessica Villarubin is a singer, host, actress, and comedienne who gained recognition as the third grand champion of GMA’s singing competition, The Clash. Currently, she can be seen on the variety show All-Out Sundays, where she is acknowledged as one of the “Divas of the Queendom.”
