The “black out” joke of Jose Manalo prompted Rendon Labador to ask MTRCB to summon the TV host
RENDON LABADOR – The motivational speaker has called on the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to take action against E.A.T host Jose Manalo for making a joke about the skin color of his co-host.
Rendon expressed his concern through his Facebook page, questioning why the MTRCB was not addressing the issue and giving them until Monday to respond. He urged them to act fairly and to check the competence of the MTRCB board members, suggesting that they might not be doing their jobs properly.
During the “Sugod Bahay Kapatid” segment of the noontime show, Jose Manalo faced accusations of making a racist joke. The incident was captured on video and quickly went viral on Twitter, bringing attention to Jose Manalo’s remark.
The video clip, shared by a Twitter user named “Anima Cristi Fermin,” caught the attention of netizens and raised concerns about racism on live TV. In the clip, Jose Manalo can be seen joking with his co-hosts, making a remark that seemed insensitive and inappropriate. He said, “Kapag napanalunan mo sa Bingo ‘to ‘yan ang tinatawag na ‘Black Out’.” Vic Sotto, another host, intervened by asking about the barangay.
The facial expressions of Paolo Ballesteros and Miles Ocampo, who were present in the TV5 studio, were evident and suggested that they were disturbed by Jose’s comment. Miles even adjusted her hair, and Paolo exclaimed, “Huy!” Allan K also had a surprised reaction, while Joey appeared serious and did not participate in the banter.
In response to the video, many netizens tagged the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board’s (MTRCB) account. Lala Sotto-Antonio, the overseer of the MTRCB account, is the daughter of E.A.T host and former Senate President Tito Sotto, and veteran actress Helen Gamboa. This tagging reflects a call for the MTRCB to address the issue and take appropriate action.
