Mario Maurer Clarifies Involvement in the Fake License Car Plates in Thailand

Mario Maurer questioned over fake license car plates

MARIO MAURER – The Thai actor personally visited the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) of Nonthaburi Province, Thailand to provide information about a white Mercedes Benz G-300 registered in his name and among those confiscated vehicles with fake license plates.

The 34-year-old Thai-German actor firmly asserted his innocence and proceeded to explain why his name was associated with the white Mercedes Benz G-300. Mario told Deputy Commander-in-Chief of CCIB, Major General Amnat Triphot, that it was in December 2022 when a certain Kong sold Mario the Mercedes Benz G-300 for 1,500,000 baht (approximately 2.4 million Philippine pesos).

Mario gave Kong a down payment of 500,000 baht, but he has yet to receive the purchased vehicle up to the present time. According to the contract Mario signed, he was supposed to have the vehicle within sixty days, so his name was listed in the driver’s license book.

Since Mario didn’t receive the car, Kong was obliged to return the down payment. However, Mario’s name was not removed or replaced in the driver’s license record. Thai Police believed Mario’s testimony due to his sincerity and the information he provided to investigators.

Mario is convinced that, like himself, Kong is also a victim of a syndicate producing fake license car plates. Several days before Mario visited the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau office, Thai Police arrested two suspected leaders of the fake license car plate syndicate, who were reported by the Land Transport Department.

One was behind a Facebook page selling fake registration plates and vehicle handbooks. The other was in charge of delivery.

Seventy-five vehicles, including the Mercedes Benz under Mario’s name, worth 77.3 million baht (124.6 million Philippine pesos), were seized by Thai Police in their operation conducted in various locations. This incident served as a significant lesson for Mario about his name being involved in an anomaly. He promised the Thai Police to be more cautious in his future transactions.
