PURA LUKA VEGA – The controversial drag artist has been declared Persona Non Grata in the city of Cebu.

During their regular session on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, the Cebu City Council passed a resolution declaring Pura Leka Vega, whose real name is Amadeus Fernando Pagente, as persona non grata.

The resolution which was authored by Councilor Pastor ‘Jun’ Alcover Jr. received no objections during its approval. “Due to his offensive and disrespectful acts in the social and cultural values related to the religious beliefs of Cebuanos,” Alcover said.

The councilor also noted that Cebu City is the first local government in Central Visayas to declare Pagente as persona non grata. Aside from the Queen City of the South, the drag artist has been declared “unwelcome” in the following LGUs; Manila City, Laguna, Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon, General Santos City, South Cotabato, Floridablanca in Pampanga, Toboso in Negros Occidental, Nueva Ecija and Dinagat Islands.

Meanwhile, Pura Luka Vega is facing a complaint for violating the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 filed by the Hijos Del Nazareno (HDN) Central, representing the devotees of the Black Nazarene in the Philippines. The complaint was filed on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at the Manila Regional Trial Court.

The case was in connection to the viral video of him dancing to the Filipino Lord’s Prayer “Ama Namin” remix version while portraying Jesus Christ. But according to Hijos Del Nazareno, they are ready to withdraw the case they filed against the drag artist if he asks for forgiveness.

As of press time, Pura Luka Vega has yet to issue any statement regarding the recent complaint filed against him. For more news and the latest updates, feel free to visit Newspapers.ph more often as well as our Facebook page and YouTube channel.
