Mom of Rico Yan Breaks Silence on “Unfair, Disrespectful” Claim About Her Son

Here’s the reaction of Sita Yan, the mother of Rico Yan on the claim about the late actor

SITA YAN – The mother of Rico Yan has broken her silence regarding the “unfair” and “disrespectful” claim about her late son.

During a press conference for Sabrina M’s upcoming movie, questions arose about her previous imprisonment from 2016 to 2018 for violating Republic Act 9165. The press also inquired about the rumors linking her to Rico. Sabrina claimed that she and Rico had a “secret relationship” and that their romance lasted for several years until Rico’s death in 2002. She also claimed that Rico’s ex-girlfriend, Claudine Barretto, and his brother, Bobby, were aware of it. However, Claudine denied Sabrina’s allegations.

On July 17, 2023, Sita released an official statement through a text message sent by her son Bobby Yan to Ogie Diaz, a comedian/vlogger/talent manager. Sita emphasized that it had been 21 years since Rico passed away and that the pain of losing a son and a brother had deeply affected their family. “It has been 21 years since Rico passed on March 29 2002. The pain of the family losing a son and a brother, has been permanently etched into our being,” she noted.

She called the recent news about Rico unfair and appealed to the public to refrain from speculating about her child. Sita requested that people stop using Rico’s name for their personal gain and urged them to leave Rico and their family in peace. “The recent news swirling around Rico is very unfair. He is no longer around to give his comment, to either refute, deny, or acknowledge the claims. It is not only unfair but disrespectful. I ask everyone concerned to please STOP using Rico’s name for their own individual purposes. Please leave Rico, and us in peace,” she noted.

Meanwhile, Claudine’s lawyer, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, threatened to file a lawsuit against Sabrina unless she issued a public apology. In response, Sabrina stood firm, maintaining the truth of her statements and refusing to apologize. Her lawyer, Atty. Juman Paa, stated that Sabrina would not apologize and suggested that any offended parties could file their own cases if they believed their rights had been violated.
