Fans of Sb19 call for respect over remarks of It’s showtime hosts about their song ‘Gento’
SB19 – Fans of the boy band are calling for respect towards local artists after It’s Showtime hosts Vice Ganda and Anne Curtis expressed disappointment upon learning that they would need to pay to play the song “Gento” on their show.
In the June 10 episode of It’s Showtime, a contestant challenged Jhong Hilario to dance to the viral TikTok song. However, the staff informed them that it was prohibited to play the song without payment. This surprised Vice and Anne, as they had previously played the song without any issues.
As a result, SB19 fans took to social media, making the hashtag #RespectLocalArtists trend. They are advocating for the proper compensation of artists.
The fans expressed their concern over the lack of consideration for music royalties when using songs. Music royalties are the rights of songwriters, recording artists, publishers, music labels, and producers to be paid for the use of their works on TV shows.
Singer-songwriter Sam Concepcion joined the discussion, calling for artists to be paid their royalties. Fans pleaded with It’s Showtime to address the issue, stating that SB19 had the right to demand royalties as artists and creators of the song.
While Vice and Anne are facing criticism, some defended them, arguing that their comments were harmless and that they have previously promoted SB19. They believe that the issue is being blown out of proportion and that Vice’s surprise was understandable, as they were unaware of the fee.
