Newborn Baby Found by Sugarcane Worker on the Side of the Road in Sagay City

A sugarcane worker finds a newborn baby on the side of the road

SAGAY CITY – An abandoned newborn baby was found by a sugarcane worker on the side of the road.

Instances of baby abandonment are not uncommon in the Philippines. In many cases, newborn babies are left in public places such as parks, churches, or hospitals. The reasons for abandonment can vary, but poverty and lack of access to reproductive health services are often cited as contributing factors.

Abandoned babies are vulnerable to various risks such as illness, malnutrition, and abuse. The government and various non-government organizations have programs in place to prevent abandonment and provide support for abandoned babies and their families.

Speaking of which, on Friday, May 5th, 2023, at around 5 o’clock in the morning, a sugarcane worker in the Hda. Caridad area of Barangay Poblacion 2 in Sagay City heard a cry of a baby. He followed the sound and was shocked to find a newborn baby lying on the side of the road, just near the sugarcane plantation.

The baby boy was wrapped in a piece of cloth and had his umbilical cord still attached to his belly button. The sugarcane worker immediately sought help, and the authorities responded quickly, bringing the infant to the hospital to check his condition.

According to medical personnel from Alfredo Marañon Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Sagay, the baby boy is in good condition, with no visible injuries or other issues.

Authorities and residents in the area believe that the infant’s parents are not from the area and may have left him on the side of the road in an attempt to avoid their responsibilities. The police are currently conducting an investigation to identify the parents of the child and hold them accountable for their actions.
