Dog finds an abandoned newborn baby

BABY FOUND BY DOG – An abandoned newborn baby was found by a dog in Sitio Calumdom, Barangay Tiza in Roxas City.

Abandoned babies in the Philippines continue to be a pressing issue that demands attention and action. According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, there were 1,002 cases of abandoned children in 2020 alone.

These infants are often left in hospitals, churches, or other public areas, and their survival is often uncertain. The reasons for baby abandonment are varied, including poverty, unplanned pregnancies, and social stigma surrounding unwed mothers.

Abandoned babies are at high risk of malnutrition, illness, and even death, highlighting the urgent need for intervention and support. The Philippine government and various non-governmental organizations have implemented programs aimed at providing care and protection for these infants.

Temporary shelters have been established to provide a safe environment for abandoned babies while efforts are made to locate their families or find adoptive homes for them. Counseling, healthcare, and financial assistance are also available to parents who are struggling to care for their children.

Meanwhile, an abandoned newborn baby was found by a dog in Sitio Calumdom, Barangay Tiza in Roxas City. On Thursday, February 23, at nine in the morning, Jean Abasiar discovered a baby girl being carried by a dog. The infant was found still alive with a severed right leg and a broken left knee.

The baby was treated right away at St. Anthony College Hospital and is currently in the custody of the local social services. Police are looking into locals’ reports that two students were purportedly seen riding a motorcycle close to where the infant may have been abandoned.
