Jake Zyrus Annoyed at Comparison to Charice Pempengco

Jake Zyrus: “Anong gusto ninyong mangyari? Bubuhayin si Charice”

JAKE ZYRUS – The singer expressed his frustration against people who continue to revive Charice Pempengco and compare him to other singers.

Charice was Jake’s former identity before he came out as a trans man. Jake did not mention any names, but it was clear that his anger was related to the comparisons made between his past self and Morissette Amon’s singing style during David Foster’s concert held at The Theatre of Solaire Resort & Casino in March.

Before the recent Holy Week, Jake couldn’t hold back and spoke out during one of his online gaming sessions. He asked, “Anong gusto ninyong mangyari? Bubuhayin si Charice? Paano? Scientifically, wala, e. It’s impossible because I’m already taking, like, hormones because that’s who I am. So, anong, like, the fckng stupid question… Questions na, ‘Oh, can you bring back your voice?’ That’s not possible! So, some of you just shut up and listen to your Charice’s songs in your own fckng time!”

According to PEP.ph, Jake firmly believes that comparing him and other singers to Charice is disrespectful to him and to the other artists. He reminded everyone that Charice, the Filipina singer who was once admired for her exceptional singing, no longer exists.

However, Charice’s loyal fans did not back down and reminded Jake of his previous statements in a videotaped interview where he referred to Charice as his hero. Like BB Gandanghari who “killed off” Rustom Padilla when he decided to become a trans woman, Jake is trying to bury the identity that brought him a good life and the success he enjoys today. But his request cannot be granted as old videos of Charice’s performances continue to resurface on the internet, repeatedly reminding everyone of his past persona.
