Charice Pempengco’s return? Jake Zyrus belting high notes with “female” voice
JAKE ZYRUS – A video of the singer singing the song Making Love Out of Nothing at All by Air Supply allegedly using the voice of “Charice Pempengco” has gone viral.
Originally known as Charice Pempengco, the singer rose to prominence after appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, and performing with David Foster and Andrea Bocelli. Aside from singing, he dabbled in acting after joining the cast of the TV show Glee.
In 2013, he came out as a gay woman. He came out as a transgender male in 2017 after undergoing male chest reconstruction and testosterone treatment. Then, he adopted the name Jake Zyrus and discontinued the use of the name “Charice Pempengco”.
For years, he had faced backlash on social media for his decision to transition from female to male, effectively ending his popularity as Charice. According to some reports, the singer was having difficulty in his current career because some people preferred to hear the voice of “Charice” rather than his.
But on February 3, several netizens were taken aback by a video of Jake Zyrus singing a high-noted song Making Love Out of Nothing at All by Air Supply. Watch the video below:
His rendition which was also uploaded on the Facebook page, Yun Moralde Vlogs, has earned more than 2.4 million views as of posting.
Netizens couldn’t help but wonder if the singer had already decided to return to his old singing style as he can still reach high notes. There were some who encouraged him to go back being “Charice.”
