Balabagan is a former OFW who was mprisoned in the United Arab Emirates from 1994 to 1996 for killing her employer. She was sentenced to death but with the personal appeal for mercy by President of the United Arab Emirates Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, she was freed.

She returned to the Philippines on August 1, 1996. Shortly after her release, Balabagan embarked on a career as a singer, appearing on a television program with Geri Halliwell.

Balabagan revealed in August 2020 that the father of her first-born child is journalist Arnold Clavio, who exclusively covered her case, and that their relationship began when she was 17 years old. She was only 14 years old when she went to the UAE.

She explained that her revelation was not motivated by vengeance, but rather by putting an end to rumors. She also stated that she apologized to “everyone she hurt,” including her family and Clavio’s family, and that Clavio’s wife has expressed forgiveness via a messaging app.

The revelation of Balabagan captivated the entire country, and some netizens chastised Clavio for what he did to the former OFW. Recently, she went to social networking site, Facebook wherein she posted a video compiling some old photos of her after her ordeal in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 1994-1996.

In her post via FB Reels, she thanked God for saving her in the past. Her post was accompanied by a bible verse: “For you have rescued me from death; you have kept my feet from slipping. So now I can walk in your presence, O God, in your life-giving light,” written in Psalm 56:13.
