Korean actor and singer Lee Ji Han, among those who died in the Itaewon stampede
LEE JI HAN – The Korean actor and K-pop singer was among those who died during the Itaewon Stampede in Seoul, South Korea.
The Itaewon district in central Seoul is a popular nightlife destination, with numerous nightclubs, restaurants, and bars.
On October 29, 2022, Halloween festivities were held in Itaewon.
It was attended by roughly 100,000 people. Apparently, only 137 officers were deployed and they were primarily focused on drug crimes.
At around 22:15 p.m. local time (KST), a crowd crush occurred along an alleyway near Itaewon station Exit 1 and the Hamilton Hotel.
At least 156 people were killed, while 172 were injured.
According to one attendee, the crush began when a group of young men pushed others until people began to fall.
It was the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic that Halloween festivities were held without social distancing or mask-wearing.

Among those who died in the Itaewon stampede is Korean actor and singer Lee Ji Han.
The passing of the 24-year-old star was confirmed by his management agency 935 Entertainment.

According to a Facebook post, Lee Ji Han sacrificed himself to save a little girl from being trampled in the tragedy.
Lee made his acting debut in the 2019 web drama “Today Was Another Nam Hyun Day”. He’s one of the competitors in the second season of the Korean singing competition “Produce 101.”
