DONNIE “AHAS” NIETES – The professional boxer left the netizens puzzled if he had hung up his gloves and become a food delivery rider.
Nietes, a native of Murcia town in Negros Occidental, is a professional boxer. He previously held the WBO mini-flyweight title from 2007 to 2011, the WBO and The Ring magazine junior-flyweight titles from 2011 to 2016, the IBF flyweight title from 2017 to 2018, and the WBO junior-bantamweight title from 2018 to 2019.
He holds the record for the longest-reigning Filipino boxing world champion, breaking the record set in 1967 by Boxing Hall of Fame inductee Gabriel “Flash” Elorde. Along with fellow Filipinos Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire, he was one of the first three Asian fighters to hold world titles in at least four weight classes.
According to Tony Aldeguer, Donnie got his nickname ‘Ahas’ while working as a utility boy at the ALA Gym. He was the only man brave enough to clean the snake pit with five large pythons. He was bitten several times but was never been bitten again after befriending the snakes. One day, a snake laid 11 eggs but only one of them survived. He took care of that snake and continues to do so to this day.
Currently, Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes is making rounds online after sharing a photo of himself wearing the uniform of a food delivery rider. This made netizens wonder if he does it only for content on social media or in real life.
