Court Sentences Retired Zamboanga Judge Oscar Tomarong for the Death of Late Judge Reymar Lacaya
RETIRED ZAMBOANGA JUDGE – Retired Judge Oscar Tomarong was convicted by the Court for the death of the late Judge Reymar Lacaya.
In May 2019, the family of then judge Reymar Lacaya was left in deep grief and call for justice over his unexpected death. He was shot inside the vicinity of the Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte Regional Trial Court as he was about to get in his car.
Then, he was the presiding judge of the court. He was a former Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte RTC Branch 11 judge. The swap with judge Oscar Tomarong for judicial audit took place around three months before he died.
Tomarong was accused the mastermind of the death of Lacaya. One of his aide who claimed that he was one of the two intermediaries who hired two men to be paid for the death Lacaya confessed.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Juliber Cabating claimed that Tomarong asked him to hire men for the death of Lacaya as he is already fed up with his fellow judge. Lacaya’s wife also made a testimony that a few days before his death, her husband told her that he is having problems with the cases against Tomarong and the judge might get mad at him.
The two (2) men behind the death of Lacaya were identified by Cabating as “Ramil and Jerry”. Based on the report, Tomarong’s aide claimed that they were paid P200,000.00. They are still at large and as well as the other intermediary.
Based on the report, Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte Regional Trial Court Branch 28 recently released a decision on the case against retired judge Oscar Tomarong over the death of his fellow judge, Reymar Lacaya.
In a judgment of the court, the retired Zamboanga judge is convicted for the death of his fellow judge. He is sentenced to reclusion perpetua or at least 40 years imprisonment without eligibility for parole.
Furthermore, he was ordered by the court to pay the heir of Lacaya P9.5 million in civil indemnity and damages. Aside from the death of Lacaya, Cabating also claimed that Tomarong has also previously ordered him to hire persons to take the life of a woman who was allegedly the bridge why his live-in partner got a new boyfriend.
