It was on Thursday, October 20, 2022, when a portion of the Carlos P. Romulo Bridge (also known as the Wawa Bridge) in Bayambang, Pangasinan, collapsed, injuring four people and damaging two trucks.

Two trucks were crossing the bridge when it caved in around 3:30 p.m. The bridge spans the Agno River and connects the towns of Wawa and San Vicente.

The injured victims were on board the two trucks and were taken to a hospital after being pulled from the vehicles.

In a statement, Niña Jose the mayor of Bayambang explained the cause of the bridge collapse.

According to her, the bridge is not a project of their local government unit but of the national government and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

She said that it was the DPWH that first claimed that overloading was the reason why the bridge collapsed.

The actress-turned-politician said that there were checkpoints before the vehicles can pass by as well as signages of the load limit.

“Siguro po dahil sa kadahilanan na napakatagal na at madami po dumadaan dyan, bumigay na ang bridge,” she said.

Jose revealed she received a lot of hateful comments following the collapse of the Wawa Bridge.

There were even netizens linking the accident to her showbiz career. At one point, she was even called a “starlet.”

In her post, she reminded the netizens to be careful with their words because there is such a thing as “libel” and “cybercrime.”

Meanwhile, Niña Jose-Quiambao is an actress-turned-politician who rose to fame when she became part of the reality show, Pinoy Big Brother (PBB).
