RAQUEL PEMPENGCO – The mother of Jake Zyrus- who was first known as Charice Pempengco, couldn’t help but express her amazement to a Tawag ng Tanghalan contestant.

Initially known as Charice Pempengco, the singer rose to fame when he performed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show and had concerts with David Foster and Andrea Bocelli.

Aside from singing, he also ventured into acting after joining the cast of the TV series Glee.

In 2011, he released a single titled “Before It Explodes” which was written by Bruno Mars.

In 2013, she came out as a gay woman. In 2017, he came out as a transgender male after having male chest reconstruction and beginning testosterone treatment.

He adopted the name Jake Zyrus, and discontinued the use of the name “Charice Pempengco”.

Meanwhile, Raquel Pempengco, the mother of Jake Zyrus earlier went to the social networking site, Facebook wherein she shared the performance of “Tawag ng Tanghalan” contestant Mary Khem Cabagte whom she claimed “papalit kay Charice.”

“This is it! May papalit na kay Charice..” she wrote.

As expected, her post generated mixed reactions from the netizens.

“Puwede mommy… kasing range ng voice ni Charice… Magaling din to. Pero mas powerful talaga si Charice… wala nang papalit,” a netizen wrote.

It was just recently when Jake Zyrus made a buzz online after Cristy Fermin claimed in an episode of “Showbiz Now Na” that the singer allegedly passed out in Chicago due to excessive alcohol consumption.

The singer was even placed inside a body bag and when he was brought to a hospital, the medics tried to revive him and fortunately, he was able to survive.
