It was on Monday, August 29 when the Philippine men’s basketball team faced off with Saudi Arabia in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

At the end of the game, Gilas Pilipinas won after scoring 84 points while Saudi Arabia only scored 46 points.

Among those present in their match which was held at Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena was Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

But before the game began, each team was introduced to the crowd.

However, when Chot Reyes was introduced as head coach of the Philippine men’s basketball team, he was booed by Filipino basketball fans.

The incident was recorded on camera and was shared on various social media platforms. As expected, the video spread online like wildfire.

In the video, fans were enraged when they saw the face of Reyes on screen who was blamed for giving a record-breaking defeat to the Philippine men’s basketball team in the past weeks including their match against Lebanon.

However, Manny V. Pangilinan, chairman Emeritus of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), was saddened by how the Filipino basketball fans treated Chot Reyes in the recent match of Gilas Pilipinas.

On Twitter, he wrote: “Nice game tonight, Gilas. Thank you. Sad to hear reaction of OUR crowd to Coach Chot. Dwight put it well – grateful indeed for your support but pls support all of us. Amen.”

His post generated mixed reactions from the netizens.

Meanwhile, Chot Reyes said that he’s willing to accept the criticism of the fans.
