It was on Monday, August 29 when the Philippine men’s basketball team faced off with Saudi Arabia in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

At the end of the game, Gilas Pilipinas won after scoring 84 points while Saudi Arabia only scored 46 points.

Among those present in their match which was held at Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena was Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

But before the game began, each team was introduced to the crowd.

However, when Chot Reyes was introduced as head coach of the Philippine men’s basketball team, he was booed by Filipino basketball fans.

The incident was recorded on camera and was shared on various social media platforms. As expected, the video spread online like wildfire.

In the video, fans were enraged when they saw the face of Reyes on screen who was blamed for giving a record-breaking defeat to the Philippine men’s basketball team in the past weeks including their match against Lebanon.

But Jordan Clarkson, a Filipino-American professional basketball player for the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and one of the players of Gilas Pilipinas, was not amused by what Filipino basketball fans did to Chot Reyes.

Clarkson gave his reaction during a press conference after the game.

“We have each other’s backs… I’m here with my coach…I know everybody in the locker room is.. I think we need to change our actions and show some love and peace here,” he said.

Aside from Jordan Clarkson, Gilas player Dwight Ramos also expressed his dismay after fans booed Chot Reyes.

The head coach of Gilas Pilipinas has yet to give any reaction to the incident.
