Seasoned director Romy Suzara dies

ROMY SUZARA – The prolific and seasoned director behind “Sarah Ang Munting Prinsesa” and “Cedie” passed away.

Suzara died due to complications after heart failure.

Rez Cortez, the chairperson of the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund) confirmed his passing through a social media post.

On the other hand, Senator Bong Revilla went to the social networking site, Facebook wherein he paid a tribute to the seasoned director.

According to Bandera, Romy Suzara died at the Philippine Heart Center due to heart failure.

Among the popular movies he made are; “Sarah Ang Munting Prinsesa,” “Medalyang Ginto,” “Cedie,” “Kokey”, the life story of Lydia de Vega and to name a few.

He was also the director of “Pepeng Shotgun” and “Bingbong Crisologo Story” starring Rudy Fernandez.

Romy Suzara and Mario O’ Hara were behind the classic hits “Mga Bilanggong Birhen” with Armida Siguion Reyna and Alma Moreno, “Mga Uod at Rosas” starring Nora Aunor, Johnny Delgado and Tolentino, as well as “Vilma and the Beep Beep Minica” starring Vilma Santos.

According to his friends, the director had been in and out of the hospital in the past years.

His last public appearance took place at ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya in the restoration of “Sa Init ng Apoy”, the 1980 movie of Lorna Tolentino and her late husband Rudy Fernandez.

Meanwhile, Mowelfund and Romy Suzara’s family are attending to the details of his burial.

They are expected to release details regarding his burial in due time.
