FLORITA UPDATE: DILG Says PBBM Wants Evacuation Centers Identified

Amidst the onslaught of the severe tropical storm Florita, DILG gave an update on PBBM’s directive.

FLORITA UPDATE — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. directed the identification of available evacuation centers amidst the onslaught of the severe tropical storm.

On Tuesday, DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos said at the Palace briefing that identifying available evacuation centers was among the President’s directives during their Cabinet meeting.

He also guaranteed that water and food supplies were available for families affected by Severe Tropical Storm Florita.

According to Abalos, the DILG is in constant touch with the local government unit (LGU) partners on the ground and everything — including water and food — is in place.

The Office of the Press Secretary said that the President suspended government work and classes at all levels in public schools in NCR and nearby provinces of Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Zambales, and Bataan from Tuesday until Wednesday because of Severe Tropical Storm Florita.

Suspension of private office work and private school classes was left to the discretion of their respective heads, according to the Office of the Press Secretary.

Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo also issued a memorandum announcing the suspension of work at the Supreme Court on August 24 due to the severe tropical storm.
