Katips earned 198 million in four days?
KATIPS – A political science professor reacted to the surfacing information that the musical movie earned 198 million in a four-day showing.
Katips is a musical drama film written and directed by Vincent M. Tañada.
It is about a group of student activists from the Katipunan area of Quezon City who struggled to protest the imposition of nationwide martial law in the 1970s.
The film stars Jerome Ponce, Vince Tañada, Mon Confiado, Sazchna Laparan, Nicole Laurel Asensio and to name a few.
But according to a netizen, the movie has earned 198 million after four (4) days of showing. It allegedly doubled the earnings of its rival movie, Maid in Malacañang.
The post was accompanied by the caption: “We’re proud 15m! Hope and Pray for all what fighting for. Congratulations!”
15 million are the number of votes received by former Vice President Leni Robredo in the previous election.
Based on the said post, the information came from the Cinema Association of the Philippines.
But Antonio P. Contreras, a Political science professor, said that it seemed the post is not true.
“198 million in 4 days?! Except there is one problem. I googled Cinema Association of the Philippines and I cannot seem to find an organization with such name,” he said.
He also tried to visit vivapinas.com and found out that there’s no content about it.
Contreras is looking for the possibility that the post was made by those who are furious at Katips.
Katips has yet to reveal how much they earned at the box office. But for Atty. Vince Tañada, the producer and director of the said movie was sold-out in some theaters.
