It was on Saturday night when Senator Sonny Angara celebrated his 50th birthday at the Manila Polo Club.

Among those who attended at his birthday party at that time were President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Lisa Araneta-Marcos, Speaker Martin Romualdez, and several senators and congressmen.

Sharing photos in his social media account, the senator thanked those who attended his birthday party.

Best part of the night is that we raised over PhP3 million for the PGH Foundation — our chosen beneficiary in lieu of gifts,” the senator wrote in the caption of his social media post.

According to the senator, PGH director Dr. Gerardo Legaspi was also present during the said event and also “helped loosen the purse strings” of the guests.

Meanwhile, Senator Raffy Tulfo defended the public officials who graced the said event.

Senator Tulfo was asked about criticisms that public officials are having fun while the country is facing the problem of inflation.

In an interview with reporters, Senator Tulfo said that those who criticized them for attending the said party were “killjoy”, adding that critics should have asked first why they were there.

Una e tao lang naman kami, marunong din dapat kaming mag-relax ‘di ba and then pangalawa, it was for a cause din from what I’ve heard nakapag-ipon ng 3 million pesos ‘yung party na ‘yon at ‘yung 3 million pesos na ‘yon ibibigay ‘yon sa PGH. So may naitulong ‘yung party na ‘yon hindi lang pagsasayaw-sayaw kundi for a good cause, charity,” Senator Tulfo said.
