CHED — Here’s what the Commission on Higher Education said about First Lady Liza Marcos’ decision to teach in a state university as a part-time law professor.

CHED Chairman Prospero De Vera III, in a social media post, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for joining the West Visayas State University (WVSU) as a law professor under the College of Law.

He also explained that the law program of the said university was launched early in his term as WVSU Board of Regents (BoR) Chair “after a long [and] extensive discussion”.

This came after WVSU President Dr. Joselito Villaruz said that the First Lady will teach Criminal Law 1 at the West Visayas State University.

Inquirer reported that students at the said university were surprised to find the First Lady among their law faculty members.

Based on the report, Atty. Liza’s name appeared in the university’s Integrated University Information System wherein her corresponding subject was listed as Criminal Law 1.

The university president said in an interview with Panay News that Atty. Liza is “more than qualified” to teach in WVSU’s College of Law as the state university’s Merit Selection Board reviewed her documents, her capacity, and her qualifications in teaching.

He added that the First Lady chose to teach in the said university because her father was a native of Iloilo City.
