Among those who mourn the passing of the actress is her Bituing Walang Ningning co-star Megastar Sharon Cuneta.

Before she passed away at the age of 59, Cherie Gil has been in the industry for nearly 50 years.

Because of her acting prowess which landed her in numerous antagonistic roles, she was dubbed the “La Primera Contravida”.

Here are some details about her:

  • Age: 59
  • Place of Birth: New York City, U.S.
  • Height: 5 ft 7 in (1.70 m)

Cherie Gil was a multi-awarded actress earning local and international awards such as FAMAS, MMFF, ASEAN International Film Awards, and Madrid International Film Festival.

Her showbiz career started when she was only nine years old.

Her career skyrocketed when she played the iconic role of Lavinia Arguelles in Bituing Walang Ningning where she uttered the famous line “You’re nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!” to Dorina, Sharon Cuneta’s character.

Cherie Gil was the daughter of Filipino singer-actors Eddie Mesa and Rosemarie Gil, and sister of fellow actors, Michael de Mesa and Mark Gil.

She was married to Rony Rogoff, a violinist; the couple had two children, Bianca and Raphael.

Aside from them, she also had another child, Jeremiah David (Jay), from a previous relationship with actor Leo Martinez.

It was in February this year when she decided to stay for good in the US to focus on her “mental, emotional, spiritual states” and “to be with her kids.”
