Quezon City Council approved a resolution declaring Darryl Yap and AiAi Delas Alas “persona non grata”.
On Tuesday, the Quezon City Council approved a resolution declaring director Darryl Yap and actress AiAi Delas Alas as “persona non grata”.
“Persona non grata” is a Latin word that refers to an unwelcome person. Declaring someone as “persona non grata” would also imply that a person is barred from entering the jurisdiction of a particular locality.
Darryl and AiAi are accused of disrespecting Quezon city’s official seal in a video posted on Vincentiments’ Facebook page. The Quezon City Council approved the resolution submitted by Quezon City District IV Councilor Ivy Lagman.
“The malicious and unscrupulous defacing of the official seal of Quezon City ridiculed and casted dishonor to it, causing insult to the noble representation of the seal,” Lagman stressed.
Lagman’s resolution stemmed from a video posted on Vincentiments’ Facebook Page, featuring AiAi portraying a character named “Ligaya Delmonte”. The city’s official triangular seal, with its visual elements edited and defaced, was also seen in the background of the said video.

After declaring “persona non grata”, Darryl said in an interview with SMNI that he didn’t feel any hard feelings or didn’t bear any ill feelings to Mayor Joy Belmonte. He also said that he completely accept the repercussions of what he did.
“My presence is actually felt not physically in Quezon City but in social media. I don’t think they can declare my social media presence and my relevance non grata in Quezon City,” he said. “I completely accept the repercussions of what I did.”
While Darryl said that he didn’t feel any hard feelings after being declared “persona non grata”, it seemed that AiAi is not affected by the issue. The actress is on vacation in the United States.
AiAi wrote positive tags on her Instagram account and also shared a video of her dancing on the beach.
“Bakit ako lumapit??? Hindi ko marinig ang music haha .. laban lang sa lamig pero mas bumilib ako sa mga tao sa likod ko sa baba nag si swimming sa gabing napakalamig .. pero ang ganda sa video no …actually pati sa picture maganda sya,” she said.
