To recognize the family as a strong foundation of the society, Malaybalay City Council passed the Golden Wedding Ordinance which provides a PHP50,000 incentive for couples celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

City Councilor Niko Aldeguer took to his official Facebook Page on June 7 wherein he announced the ordinance.

Here’s the official statement of Aldeguer:

Based on the ordinance, the couple’s marriage to qualify for the PHP50,000 incentive must be valid and registered in the local City Civil Registry.

The couple, who have been permanent residents of Malaybalay City for six years, are also eligible for the incentive.

An individual whose spouse is elsewhere working and has less than six years of residency may be covered by the incentive if they have been a resident of the city for six years by the time of their golden wedding anniversary.

The couple who separated, even though their separation was not legal, are no longer qualified.

The Office of Senior Citizens ’Affairs and the City Mayor’s Office will issue the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the said ordinance.

In an interview with Aldeguer of MindaNews, he said the ordinance will be implemented immediately.

The funds will come from the Gender and Development Fund or the Special Appropriation Fund.

“At least the GAD funds can be used properly. This is one way of inspiring couples,” Aldeguer said.
