It was on May 5, 2020, when the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and Solicitor General Jose Calida issued a cease-and-desist order to ABS-CBN.

On July 10, 2020, members of the House of Representatives, particularly the Committee on Legislative Franchises, voted 70–11 to deny the franchise application of ABS-CBN, citing several issues with the network’s franchise.

Following the closure of the Kapamilya Network, a lot of ABS-CBN employees lost their jobs. Some workers decided to transfer to other networks.

But according to Abante newspaper columnist Joe Barrameda, ABS-CBN CEO Carlo Katigbak seems to be courting the next president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to give them a chance to get back on television.

In Barrameda’s column, he said that he earlier received information that Katigbak visited Marcos’ headquarters in Quezon City.

It is not confirmed what caused Katigbak to go to BBM’s headquarters but many believe it has something to do with the ABS-CBN franchise.

“May nagkuwento sa akin na noong isang araw raw ay namataan si Mr. Carlo Katigbak, big boss ng ABS-CBN, sa BBM Headquarters sa Mandaluyong City,” said Barrameda.

“Nagtanong ‘yung nakakita kung sino ‘yung dumating. At binanggit daw ng guard na si Carlo Katigbak,” he added.
