Passenger w/ No Flying Experience Managed to Land Aircraft After Pilot Suffered From Medical Emergency
A plane passenger with no flying experience was able to land an aircraft after the pilot became incapacitated onboard.
Earlier this week, a passenger on a private plane took the initiative during a dramatic situation. The passenger has been left with no choice but to maneuver the aircraft after the pilot became incapacitated.
The unidentified passenger has been captured on audio telling air traffic control that doesn’t have an idea how to drive a plane after the pilot went incoherent. The traffic control gives him some instructions to land safely.
“Try to hold the wings level and see if you can start descending for me. Push forward on the controls and descend at a very slow rate, Try to follow the coast, either north or southbound. We’re trying to locate you,” the traffic control said.
The air traffic control guided the passenger to fly a plane at an altitude of 91,00ft near southern Florida until it reaches Fort Pierce. The air traffic personnel located the private plane within four minutes using the radar.
The personnel guided the passenger to follow the coastline until he land at Palm Beach International airport safe and sound.
“You just witnessed a couple of passengers land that plane,” the air traffic controllers said.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will investigate the incident. The authorities also believe that the pilot suffered a medical emergency during the flight.
