Bongbong Marcos’ Camp Asked about Possible Martin Romualdez Speakership

Is presumptive president Bongbong Marcos’ cousin Rep. Martin Romualdez the next House Speaker?

BONGBONG MARCOS – The camp of the presumptive president was asked about the possible House speakership of Rep. Martin Romualdez.

In the partial and unofficial results of the 2022 National Elections, the presidential frontrunner, former Senator Bongbong Marcos, is taking a huge lead of over 16 million. His camp has already declared victory after 98% of the votes has been canvassed.

Marcos Jr.’s candidacy was challenged by several petitions seeking his disqualification from the presidential race and the cancellation of his Certificate of Candidacy. The Commission on Elections (Comelec) junked all the petitions filed against the former Senator.

Recently, a petition seeking the cancellation of Marcos Jr.’s COC was filed at the Supreme Court. Civic leaders were behind the said petition that cited an alleged “material misrepresentation” of the former Senator’s COC.

Marcos Jr.’s camp is asking the petitioners to just support the former Senator who was voted by the majority. They previously had a victory party in Solaire Hotel and the presumptive president is now in Australia for a “much-needed rest” with his family.

Amid the issues, there were reports about several political parties backing Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, the cousin of presumptive president Bongbong Marcos who is also very active in his campaign, as the next House Speaker.

Based on a report on ABS-CCBN News, the camp of presumptive president Bongbong Marcos was asked about the possible House speakership of his cousin, Rep. Martin Romualdez, but they refused to comment.

Marcos Jr.’s spokesperson, Atty. Vic Rodriguez, stressed it is still the 18th Congress. He believes that they are still not in the position to make any comment “since it will be presumptuous to join the tray”. He further expressed that it is a legislative matter and they respect the independence of the branch that is co-equal to the executive.

Currently, Marcos Jr. is in Australia and is expected to be back on Thursday. His camp has yet to receive a copy of the petition seeking the cancellation of his COC.
