The President said at the Joint Meeting of the National Task Force – Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-RTF-ELCAC) in Butuan City that he and his daughter had not been talking but added that he was supporting her vice-presidential campaign.

Ako talaga paalis na ako. Kayong naiwan kasi matagal pa kayo sa gobyerno… Pero ganoon ang nangyayari sa Pilipinas. Pabalik-balik kayo,” the President said.

According to him, he didn’t understand at first because he urged his daughter to run as mayor but she said that her brother, Davao City Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, should run instead.

Kagaya ng anak ko, ‘yung babae, si Inday. Noon ayaw, ngayon kandidato na ng vice president. Hindi ko maintindihan,” the President said. “Noon na pinapatakbo ko ng mayor kasi paalis ako, that was the time that I was the vice mayor, sabi niya, ‘ayaw ko, ayaw ko, si Pulong na lang.’ Nakatikim siguro ng magandang puwesto, mayor ka kasi so ngayon tumakbo ng vice president.

Sara Duterte earlier said that she was hoping that the President supports her standard-bearer, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. But she said that she respected her father’s decision not to endorse any presidential candidate.

The President reiterated that he wasn’t endorsing any presidential candidate in the 2022 elections.
