Is Jesus a victim of red-tagging?
RED-TAGGING – A lawyer reprimanded Bishop Pablo David after the latter said that Jesus was a victim of red-baiting.
Red-tagging refers to the malicious blacklisting of individuals or organizations critical or not fully supportive of the actions of a sitting government administration in the country.
These individuals and organizations are “tagged” as either communists or terrorists or both, regardless of their actual political beliefs or affiliations.
Among those who have been victimized by red-tagging are some well-known celebrities such as Liza Soberano, Catriona Gray, and Angel Locsin.
On April 15, Bishop Pablo David, the president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines mentioned in his homily that Jesus Christ was a victim of “red-tagging” which has become rampant in the present administration.
“Siguro kaya Red ang kulay ng Biyernes Santo. Paalala din ito na ang ikinamatay ni Hesus sa krus ay red-tagging,” David said.
According to David, Jesus was an organizer of poor fishermen in Galilea, visits remote places such as deserts and mountains, and is related to a well-known activist prophet named Juan Bautista.
But according to Atty. Bruce Rivera, what happened to Jesus was not red-tagging.
“Ang kinamatay ni Hesus ay hindi red-tagging,” Rivera said.
Rivera noted that Jesus died because Herod let the Jews decide.
“Kaya umabot kay Pilato na walang paninindigan. Hindi ang korte, hindi ang buong empire kundi ang mga Hudyo na galit na kay Hesus kasi siniraan ito ng mga Pharisees,” Rivera said.
Rivera also reminded David not to use and compare Jesus to the enemies of the state.
