In a statement, the Kapamilya Network noted that it is hoping “people may be allowed to freely participate in meaningful and rational discussion of issues without having to be red-tagged.”

Star Magic, the talent and management subsidiary arm of ABS-CBN, stand by Liza as she advocates for women’s rights.

ABS-CBN has issued a separate statement defending their other talent, Angel Locsin- who has been active in humanitarian works, amid the controversy.

“ABS-CBN is very concerned about the wrongful identification of Angel Locsin as a member of the NPA,” the network said.

“Doing humanitarian activities and speaking one’s mind do not make one a member of the communist group,” it added.

The issue first erupted when Lieutenant General Antonio Parlade Jr. gave a dire warning to the said celebrities.

Meanwhile, the Palace through Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque earlier issued a statement in response to the warning of General Parlade.

“Pinag-iingatan lang sila na baka magamit sila ng Left,” said Roque.
