Russian troops kidnap the mayor of Melitopol in Ukraine

IVAN FEDOROV – The mayor of Melitopol, one of the cities in Ukraine, was abducted by Russian troops.

It was in the early hours of February 24 when Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war against Ukraine via his State of the Nation Address.

In his statement, Putin believes that the leading members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) particularly the US was threatening to take over Russia.

NATO is an alliance of European and North American countries established to promote peace.

Led by the US, NATO- aimed to protect Western European countries from the threat of the Soviet Union and combat the spread of communism after World War II.

Meanwhile, Ivan Fedorov, the mayor of Melitopol, one of the cities in Ukraine, was abducted by Russian troops.

This was confirmed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukrainian officials

“A group of 10 occupiers kidnapped the mayor of Melitopol Ivan Fedorov,” the parliament of Ukraine said on Twitter post. “He refused to cooperate with the enemy,” it added.

According to Zelensky, the mayor was kidnapped when he was at the city’s crisis center dealing with supply issues.

The mayor of Melitopol was not the first Ukrainian official abducted by Russian troops.

Earlier, the deputy head of the regional council of Zaporizhzhia, which is about 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of Melitopol was kidnapped but released a few days ago.

As of posting, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is ongoing.

In fact, Russian troops are pressing closer near Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.
