Lacson will run for president in the coming elections together with his runningmate, Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III. They will go against the tandem of; former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and Doc Willie Ong, Senator Manny Pacquiao and Buhay partylist representative, Lito Atienza as well as Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.

Lacson is now running as an independent candidate after Alvarez switched support to Robredo but he does not believe that his low survey ratings were the reason why Alvarez did it.

In a statement, Lacson disclosed that the camp of Alvarez demanded hundreds of millions as campaign funds. Apparently, he did not give the amount- a whopping 800 million pesos.

“Time to call a spade a spade. It was actually more about the issue of campaign expenses for their local candidates. His chief of staff was asking for 800 million pesos in additional funding which I honestly told him I cannot produce,” he said.

Lacson also warned Alvarez not to talk further about his transfer of support.

Meanwhile, Alvarez said in a statement that only Robredo is the candidate who can go against the leading candidate, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

He also apologized for what he had said before to Robredo.
