On Thursday, Malacañang confirmed in a statement that the President was under mandatory quarantine after he was exposed to a household staff member who was tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Cabinet Secretary and acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles said that President Duterte had since been tested for COVID-19, adding that while the results of the RT-PCR test came back “negative”, the President was currently observing mandatory quarantine protocols.

Nograles also said that President Duterte was exposed to a COVID-positive household staff member last January 30 and that his RT-PCR test result, which showed him “negative” for COVID-19, came out last January 31.

Nograles made the statement following rumors that the President was rushed to a hospital. The rumor spread amidst the lack of a “Talk to the People” public briefing for more than a week now.

Based on the report on GMA News Online, the acting Palace spokesman said that the President went to Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan “for his routine medical check-up only”.

However, Nograles has yet to answer queries when this checkup took place or if it occurred after President Duterte’s January 30 exposure to a COVID-positive household staff member.

He assured the public that the President remained capable of executing his duties.

The Chief Executive continues to work while in quarantine, and is in constant communication with the members of the Cabinet in order to ensure that urgent matters are addressed, and to monitor the implementation of his directives, particularly with regard to the government’s COVID-19 response,” Nograles said.

The President was already fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and has also received a COVID-19 booster shot as well.
