Bato dela Rosa alarmed at how online sabong has ruined the lives of some Filipinos
BATO DELA ROSA – The incumbent senator will investigate the alleged worsening effects of online sabong in the Philippines.
Online sabong or eSabong is the online/remote or off-site wagering/betting on live cockfighting matches, events, and/or activities streamed or broadcasted live from cockpit arena/s licensed or authorized by the Local Government Units having jurisdiction thereof.
In a statement, Dela Rosa, chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Order, said it is time to investigate the undesirable happenings surrounding online sabong.
Some sabungeros have been missing in recent months for unexplained reasons.
There are some Filipinos who do bad things just to finance their addiction to online sabong. One of which is a police officer who was arrested for trying to rob a gas station.
“I am quite alarmed at how e-sabong has ruined the lives of some Filipinos who are addicted to this particular mode of gambling and its consequential impact to our peace and order,” he said.
“If this situation of missing persons relative to e-sabong continues and is not given relief and resolution, then I might pass a resolution requiring a senate inquiry into this matter,” he added.
Senators Ping Lacson and Tito Sotto also shared their concern and said that the issues caused by e-cockfighting or online sabong in the country seem to be getting worse.
On February 18, Atong Ang, one of the handlers of online cockfighting in the country said that he will assist in the investigation for the missing cockfighters.
