Isko Moreno was asked about the administration’s anti-illegal drug campaign
Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, one of the presidential aspirants in the 2022 elections, said that he will continue the war on drugs program of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The said anti-illegal drug campaign of the current administration has become controversial. Critics of the President, especially those who are against the war on drugs that he conducted, accused that this campaign prompted extrajudicial killings and human rights violations.
This topic is one of the questions that King of Talk Boy Abunda asked in his presidential interviews. On January 27, the session with Mayor Isko Moreno was released. Regarding the war on drugs, the Manila Mayor said that he will definitely continue the anti-illegal drug campaign of Duterte.
However, he stressed that he will do this lawfully. He said that he has zero-tolerance when it comes to this because he saw and understands the bad effects of prohibited substances. “Basta pananagutin kita, sa mata ng batas, hindi sa batas ng sinoman,” the presidential aspirant said.
He also commended this program of the President because he was able to see the result of this in Manila. “In fairness kay Pangulong Duterte, kung hindi nawala, halos mawala ‘yung droga sa kalsada,” Moreno said.
He also said that the manufacturing of drugs in the Philippines was also eliminated because of this campaign. On the other hand, the Mayor said that there was one thing that he discovered – the drugs are entering the country in bulk.
With this, he came to the conclusion that there must be a problem in the borders of the country. “There must be something wrong with our ports,” he said.
Mayor Isko Moreno said that the reason why he concluded this was because they were able to intercept bulks of illegal drugs being brought to the Philippines even though there is no manufacturing that is happening here anymore. If he wins the presidency, Moreno said that he will strengthen the security in ports and borders.
