SARA DUTERTE — The Davao City mayor recently explained why she backed out from her mayoral bid in her hometown and decided to run for the national position.
Supporters who kept encouraging her and those who got “depressed” when she initially didn’t file her candidacy for a national position were the reason why Mayor Sara eventually decided to seek the vice-presidency in the 2022 elections.
On Friday, Mayor Sara explained during her meet-and-greet with UniTeam alliance and Lakas-CMD members in San Pablo, Laguna why she backed out from her mayoral bid in her hometown and decided to run for the national position.
According to her, she’s wrong in estimating the people’s sentiments and she thought her supporters would stop encouraging her once she announced that she wouldn’t run for a national position.

Mayor Sara also said that her supporters didn’t stop from holding prayer vigils, caravans, and outreach programs to the people in a bid to encourage her from running for a national position.
She added that “everyday”, her supporters would bug her about her initial decision — to run for reelection as mayor of Davao City.
Her brother, Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, who initially sought a vice-mayoralty post, replaced her in the mayoral bid.
