Sara Duterte: “The filing of candidacy and withdrawal is a personal decision.”
SARA DUTERTE — Here’s what the vice-presidential aspirant said after his father, President Rodrigo Duterte, and Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go withdrew their candidacy in the 2022 elections.
On Tuesday, Mayor Sara said in a statement that she supported the withdrawal of her father from the senatorial race and Senator Go from the presidential race in the 2022 elections.
“The filing of candidacy and withdrawal is a personal decision. We can only support that decision,” Mayor Sara said.
Mayor Sara’s statement came after her father personally submitted his statement of withdrawal for senator in the 2022 elections.
She earlier announced her picks for the Senate which still included her father. Apart from the President, she also named 6 aspirants as her choices for senator in the 2022 elections.

Aside from Mayor Sara, vice-presidential aspirant Vicente “Tito” Sotto III also opened up about the decision of President Duterte and Senator Go to withdraw their candidacy.
According to Sotto, the withdrawal of President Duterte from the senatorial race and Senator Bong Go from the presidential race in the 2022 elections was a “wise move”.
“It takes a wise man to sacrifice something that he loves and give way to others who can serve our country better,” Sotto emphasized.
Meanwhile, Go said that he’s saddened by the President’s decision to withdraw from the senatorial race in the 2022 elections. The senator urged the public to respect the President’s decision to retire after he finished his term.
“Nagserbisyo na po siya nang husto sa bayan at marami na siyang nabago na nagpaganda ng buhay ng taumbayan. Siguradong hindi iyan makakalimutan ng mga Pilipino,” Go said.
The senator said that President Duterte will spend the remaining months of his term strengthening the country’s pandemic response and recovery efforts.
Go also said that the President will also work to make sure that the 2022 elections would be peaceful and orderly and that there would be a smooth transition to the next administration.
