Padilla, with the rank of Captain, has resigned from his position as head of the communications panel of the Army’s Multi-Sectoral Advisory Board while Bautista has the rank of Brigadier General.

Aside from Robin Padilla and Herbert Bautista, among those relieved from the army are Col. Isidro Ungab who’s running for congressman under the third district of Davao, Lt. Col Eugene Balitang as representative of Ifugao, Lt. Col. Jayvee Tyron Uy who’s running for vice governor in Davao de Oro, and si Lt. Col. Rhodora Cadiao who’s rooting for the position as governor of Antique.

The removal of the aforementioned reservists is part of the goal of AFP commander Lt. Gen Andres Centino to make the soldiers non-partisan in the 2022 elections.

“We assure the public that as a professional organization, the military will be non-partisan. We will perform our mandate of ensuring fair elections,” he said.

Padilla and Bautista are among those who are seeking a senatorial slot which is one of the coveted positions during the national elections.

This year, out of hundreds who filed their Certificate of Candidacy (COC) only 12 will be elected.

Among those who are rooting a senatorial slot in the coming elections are ordinary citizens to elite individuals as well as prominent personalities.

The campaign period for nationally-elected positions will kick off on February 8, 2022, until May 7, 2022, while the nationwide election is scheduled to be held on May 9.
