Vice President Leni Robredo: “Karapatan namang piliin kung sino ‘yung gusto mong makasama.”
LENI ROBREDO — Here’s what the incumbent Vice President said after Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said that he will vote for President Rodrigo Duterte in the 2022 Senate race and would even go as far as endorsing him.
On Monday, Robredo said during a press conference at the University of Baguio that although it’s Moreno’s right to invite President Duterte to his senatorial lineup, this reflected the local executive’s “values” because “popularity and winnability” weren’t enough.
“Karapatan niya ‘yun. Karapatan namang piliin kung sino ‘yung gusto mong makasama,” Robredo said. “Pero ‘yung choices naman not just for the slate natin pero iyong choices naman nating lahat reflection siya ng aspirations natin. Lagi siyang reflection ng values na pinapaniwalaan natin.”
Robredo was in the northern city for a two-day visit. The Vice President went first to the Baguio City Hall, where she met Baguio Mayor Benjamin Magalong in the morning, before attending the People’s Council meeting and her visit to Good Shepherd Convent.
She took pride in her own senatorial slate because they reflected the reforms that she wanted to push for in the Philippines if she won the presidency in 2022.

According to Robredo, she chose her senatorial candidates based on why they’re running, what contributions they can make for the next generation, and because they shared the ticket’s aspirations for the country.
“Hindi lang naman ‘yung popularity and winnability ang pinakamahalaga. Ang pinakamahalaga, nako-communicate mo ‘yung gusto mong mangyari,” Robredo said. “It is because pinag-isipan ito. Pinag-isipan na each one of them can contribute to having a set of policies that benefit the Filipino people.”
Robredo attended the flag ceremony at the city hall and also went to the Smart City Command Center and hailed Baguio for its contribution in the fight against the pandemic.
The Vice President shared that she had been asking Mayor Magalong for tips on the city’s lessons and models for best practices and Mayor Magalong “has been so selfless in sharing with us”.
“Alam ko po na kayo ‘yung isa sa mga best performing na mga LGUs as far as contact tracing is concerned, as far as vaccination is concerned,” Robredo said as city hall employees applauded.
