In a surprise move, the president filed a statement of withdrawal at the office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Duterte was supposed to run for senator as substitute candidate for Liezl Visorde of PDDS (Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan).

However, he earlier decided to withdraw his candidacy.

His withdrawal earn mixed reactions and among those who made a comment about it is no less than his longtime aide, Senator Bong Go.

Meanwhile, Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Tesoro Go has been serving as a Senator since 2019.

But before being elected as senator, he served in President Rodrigo Duterte’s Cabinet as Special Assistant to the President (SAP) and Head of the Presidential Management Staff from June 2016 to October 2018.

Go has served as the personal aide and special assistant to Duterte since 1998, back when Duterte was still mayor of Davao City.

At present, he is the chairman of the Senate committee on health and demography.

Earlier, Bong Go filed his statement of withdrawal at the Comelec office.

He was initially rooting for the highest position in the Philippine government. However, his own family opposed his decision to run for the presidency.
