Will President Duterte get a booster shot?
Here’s what Malacañang said when asked whether President Rodrigo Duterte will get a booster shot.
During the Presidential press briefing, Cabinet Secretary and acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles said that the President was waiting for his personal physician’s advice on whether to get a COVID-19 booster shot.
“Kung tatanggap ba siya [President] o isasapubliko ba ang additional o booster shots, that’s actually between the President and his personal physician,” Nograles said. “Abangan na lang natin ano ang magiging advice ng kanyang personal physician.”
The government already started administering booster shots to senior citizens and persons with comorbidities as well. President Duterte fell under the A3 priority group.

To recall, the President received his first dose of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine last May 3. At that time, the vaccine brand didn’t yet have an emergency use approval (EUA) from the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The President then received his second dose of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine 70 days after receiving his first dose.
Malacañang said last July that there’s no need for the President to take a booster shot as he had a high antibody count after completing his two-dose vaccination.
Last September, President Duterte told Filipinos not to get booster shots and said that two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were enough.
“Tama na ‘yang dalawang doses, ‘wag na ninyong sobrahan, delikado,” President Duterte said at that time. “When you do that, you deprive your countrymen, the others na wala pa sa isang bakuna, na maibigay doon sa kapwa tao.”
