In a surprise move, the country’s highest leader filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) as he seek a senatorial post in the 2022 elections.

Atty. Melchor Aranas filed on his behalf at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) main office in Intramuros, Manila City.

President Duterte will run under the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS), as a substitute candidate for Liezl Visorde.

On the other hand, his longtime aide, Senator Bong Go will be the party’s standard-bearer.

Bong Go will go against presidential candidates such as Vice President Leni Robredo, former Senator Bongbong Marcos, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, and senators Manny Pacquiao and Ping Lacson.

Meanwhile, Arlene Brosas, the representative of Gabriela party-list likened Duterte to “dagang nasusukol” following his senatorial bid.

Brosas claimed that Duterte is seeking a position in the Senate to evade the cases he’s up to face at the International Criminal Court or ICC.

“Gusto niyang isuksok ang sarili sa Senado na tila dagang nasusukol,” she said in a statement.

Brosas noted that “justice will surely catch up and put him in the rightful place.”

She stressed that Filipino women will make sure that Duterte “will never get close to having a Senate seat.”

In the last part of her statement via TNT Abante, she cited that Duterte should “exit disgracefully and enter his prison cell in 2022.”
