Before he ventured into politics, Chavit was among those supporting Pacquiao in his bouts inside the boxing ring.

However, because of misunderstanding, they parted ways.

At press time, Pacquiao is gearing up for his candidacy. He will run for the highest post in the coming elections.

He will go against presidential aspirants; Vice President Leni Robredo, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, former senator Bongbong Marcos, as well as senators, Ping Lacson and Bong Go.

But in an interview with Inquirer, Chavit Singson claimed that Pacquiao is not qualified for the presidency.

“Hindi pa siguro panahon ni Sen. Manny Pacquiao. Unang-una hindi siya qualified. Ang presidente kasi you have to be well educated if not well experienced,” he said.

“Hindi puwedeng i-elect mo ‘yung presidente na mapapahiya tayo dahil ‘yan ang mukha nating Pilipino,” he added.

He advised Pacquiao to just return to the senatorship and gain more experience and then consider whether to seek a higher position.

Meanwhile, the rift between the two started following a disagreement over the increase in alcohol and tobacco taxes.

At the time, he told Singson that he could not bear increasing the taxes on basic commodities like food but Pacquiao claimed that the issue between them is already over.

Despite Chavit withdrawn his support to the boxer-turned-politician, Pacquiao stressed he does not hold a grudge against him.
