CHED Requires PhilHealth from Teachers, Students in Face-to-Face Classes

CHED Speaks on PhilHealth Requirement in Limited Face-to-Face Classes

CHED – The Commission on Higher Education will be requiring PhilHealth membership from teachers, students, and non-teaching staff who will participate in limited face-to-face classes.

For more than a year now, elementary and secondary schools are adapting blended learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The lessons are delivered to the students through modules and online classes so they need not be physically present in classrooms as gatherings are avoided.

With regards to the college level, the IATF recently approved the proposal of the Commission on Higher Education to implement limited face-to-face classes for all college programs in areas that are under Alert Level 3 and below.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the implementation of the limited in-person classes will be in phases. The first phase is set to begin in December 2021 covering all higher education institutions (HEIs) in areas under Alert Level 2.

According to the report, CHED will require teachers and students who will be participating in the limited face-to-face classes to be registered to PhilHealth. Non-teaching personnel of colleges and universities will also be required.

CHED Executive Director IV Attorney Cinderella Jaro said that in case the teachers or students will fall ill to COVID-19, there would be ready benefits offered by PhilHealth to help them.

Aside from the PhilHealth memberships of teachers, students, and students who will be participating in the in-person classes, Jaro revealed that they will also require the colleges and universities an isolation room. According to her, they are already coordinating with the Department of Health (DOH) about it stressing that it is a standard protocol.

In case someone tests positive in a class, disinfection of classrooms will also be required thus students in the said classroom will have to return to flexible learning mode until they finish the quarantine procedure. Students and teachers who will be participating in the in-person classes must bring their vaccination cards.
