Mayor Sara’s office announced last Saturday that she had tested positive for COVID-19 and encouraged those who had close contact with her in the last 14 days to self-monitor for coronavirus symptoms and get tested 5-7 days from their contact with her.

Davao City Information Office (CIO) said that the Davao City mayor was experiencing mild symptoms and was currently in isolation, adding that the family requested “complete privacy”.

The family requests for complete privacy at this time and respectfully urges the public to refrain from sending tokens for well wishes,” the CIO said in a statement.

Mayor Sara was supposed to be on medical leave from October 5 to October 8 to go to Singapore. However, Mayor Sara had to postpone her trip as one of her companions had tested positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a press briefing Monday that he can only surmise that there’s no contact because “otherwise Mayor Sara will probably be a candidate by now”.

Roque also said that President Duterte will be delivering his public address tonight, adding that he and other selected IATF members will be flying to Davao for the address.
