Will there be a Sara Duterte-Bong Go tandem in the coming election?
SARA-BONG GO – President Rodrigo Duterte is still rooting for the tandem of his daughter and the senator/former aide in the 2022 elections.
This, despite Inday Sara earlier filed her Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for her re-election as the mayor of Davao City.
Although she has already filed her COC, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque stressed that Mayor Sara- a lawyer, knows her candidacy can still be withdrawn.
Roque also refuted speculations that President Duterte may run again for the presidency or vice-president and that he will inevitably fight his former top aide.
Amid clamors and calls for the president to run anew, he has already announced his retirement from politics. At the time, Bong Go filed his COC for vice president.
Prior to that, Duterte has been vocal about the possibility to run for vice-president in the coming elections.
Meanwhile, the filing of COC kicked off on Friday, October 1 and it will end on October 8.
Among those who have filed a COC for the position of Chief Executive is Senator Manny Pacquiao and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
On the other hand, those who seek vice-presidency are Buhay Party-list Representative Lito Atienza and Doc. Willie Ong.
The Commission on Elections will post a tentative list of candidates on October 29.
On the other hand, the campaign period for nationally-elected positions will kick off on February 8, 2022, until May 7, 2022, while for locally-elected positions, it will start on March 25 until May 7, 2022. The nationwide elections are scheduled to be held on May 9.
