KRIS AQUINO — The actress and TV host announced in a social media post on Sunday evening that she and former politician Mel Senen Sarmiento were officially engaged.

The video posted on Instagram started with a montage of pink, heart-shaped flower bouquets and followed by footage of Mel and Kris nervous and all smiles, appearing to want to announce their engagement but finding themselves tongue-tied. The TV host was also noticeably thinner in the said video.

Kris admitted in the caption on her Instagram post that she’s “only 95 pounds now” as pandemic and stressful events that happened since mid-August really caused her weight to drop and her health to suffer.

Kris was the youngest daughter of former president Corazon “Cory” Aquino and former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. She’s also the sister of former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, whose recent death she also mentioned in her post.

According to her, she’s sure that her brother wouldn’t want to leave his youngest sister without someone to guard her, take care of her, and trust her.

She then went on to address Sarmiento directly in her Instagram post, saying that it’s unreal how much more calm and peaceful she felt now that he’s there.

To my best friend and the man I said yes to spending the rest of my life with, thank you for as Bimb said loving me for me, with no agenda, and for being just an overall good and patient man,” Kris wrote. “We agreed, what’s personal shall remain private so hanggang dito lang ang puwede kong ma-share. Except I guess to say as much as I am proud to be an Aquino, looking forward na kong maging Sarmiento.”

Sarmiento was vice mayor of Calbayog City from 1992 to 1995 and also mayor of the same city from 2001 to 2010. He also represented the 1st District of Samar from 2010 to 2015 and served as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) under Kris Aquino’s brother Noynoy.

It was last August when Kris confirmed her relationship with Sarmiento.
