According to the Commission on Elections, a certain Danilo Brioso filed a certificate of candidacy (COC) on behalf of the Kapa founder.

Brioso filed Apolinario’s COC at the Harbor Garden Tent of The Sofitel in Pasay City around 10 am Saturday, October 2.

Joel Apolinario, a native of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, will run as an independent candidate in the 2022 senatorial elections.

Brioso and his companions left shortly after filing the COC of Apolinario. They even refused to be interviewed by the press.

To recall, Kapa- one of the biggest financial investment frauds in the country, was red-flagged by the Securities and Exchange Commission over a Ponzi-type scheme.

Kapa, which started in 2016 as Kapa Coop Convenience Store and General Merchandise in the city of Bislig, was said to be enticing their investors to invest at least P10,000 while promising a 30% monthly return on investments for life.

It was in July 2020, when Joel Apolinario was arrested in Surigao del Sur for syndicated estafa.

Joel himself has yet to issue any statement regarding his political plans and agenda.

Meanwhile, the filing of COC kicked off on Friday, October 1 and it will end on October 8.

On the other hand, the campaign period for nationally-elected positions will kick off on February 8, 2022, until May 7, 2022 and the election is scheduled to be held on May 9.
